As the holiday season approaches, many of us start looking for ways to decorate our homes and spread some festive cheer, but most importantly, we are looking for an activity to do so we can spend time with our loved ones. One easy, simple but super creative way to bring holiday spirit into your space is by making your own Christmas ornaments. Not only is this a fun activity, but it also allows you to add a personal touch to your decorations.
Materials You Will Need
● Art Paper Card (250 to 300 gsm): Choose paper that is as steady enough as you to hold its shape. You can go for colorful patterns, plain colors, or even glitter paper for that
extra sparkle.
● Hot Glue Gun (small): A small-sized hot glue gun, I repeat, small sized.
● Scissors: A pair of scissors.
● Glue Stick: A small-sized one, I repeat, small sized.
Prepare Your Work Area
Set up a clean and organized workspace to ensure a smooth crafting process. Lay down some old newspaper or a crafting mat to protect your surface from glue spills.
White Paper Ornaments
We'll create 30 cuts for the white paper ornament. (You can adjust the quantity according to your desired ornament size.)
Instructions:
1. Cut the Template: Start by cutting out 30 pieces of the shape(based on above photo)
from the art paper.
2. Fold Each Cut: Once you have all your pieces, fold each one in the middle.
3. Glue the Pieces: Using the glue stick, apply glue along the edges of each piece as
shown in your template instructions, ensuring they are adhered securely together.
4. Assemble the Ornaments: Begin gluing all 30 pieces together. Arrange them in a circular formation, applying a small amount of hot glue to each piece before pressing and holding them in place until they are set.
5. Secure the Ends: Once you have formed a circle, take the first and the last pieces and
glue them together, ensuring a complete circular ornament.
Gold Paper Ornaments
Now, let’s move on to the gold paper ornaments. The process is quite similar but adds an
additional flair.
Instructions:
1. Cut the Template: Again, cut out 30 pieces.
2.Fold Each Cut: Make sure to fold each piece in the middle.
3. Glue the Middle Part: Take all 30 cuts and apply glue to the middle area of each piece
using your glue stick.
4. Glue Top and Bottom: To create a solid shape, glue the top and bottom of each folded
piece together, ensuring they create a beautiful 3D effect.
5. Attach All Together: Begin attaching each cut together in a circle shape, using hot glue to secure them.
6. Final Touch: Finally, glue the last piece to the first, forming a complete ornament.
My favourite Technique Tips for Perfect Ornaments
Creating the perfect paper ornaments requires some patience and attention to detail. Here are some technique tips to enhance your crafting experience:
1. Be Patient: Take your time during each step. Rushing can lead to uneven cuts or sloppy
glue work.
2. Choose the Right Colors: Select colors that match your holiday decor.
3. Cut with Precision: Take your time cutting the shapes. The quality of your cuts will
directly impact how the ornaments look in the end. Sharp scissors and steady hands will
yield the best results.
4. Select Sturdy Paper: A heavier weight paper (250 to 300 gsm) will ensure your
ornaments hold their shape and last through many holiday seasons.
5. Use Velcro Tape: If you’d like to keep your ornaments intact after the season, consider
using velcro tape to adhere them together. This allows you to disassemble and store
them easily.
6. Add String and Ribbon: Once your ornaments are complete, add a string or ribbon to the top for hanging. This finishing touch not only makes them ready to display but also adds an extra decorative element.
